The Indian Society of Nephrology was founded by the joint efforts of Dr. K.S.Chugh and Dr. P. Koshy on 18th of January 1970 at a meeting held at the Topiwala National Medical College, Bombay. Besides Drs. Chugh and Koshy, the meeting was attended by Dr. C.Prakash (Rohtak), Dr. P.Raghavan (Bombay), Dr. H.Vaishnava (New Delhi), Dr. S.P.S.Teotia (Lucknow), Dr. P.D.Gulati (New Delhi), Dr. Thomas Kuruvilla (Tiruvalla, Kerala), Dr. P.K.Wahal (Agra) and Dr. K.V.Krishna Das (Trivandrum).
The Society was registered at Chandigarh under the Indian Societies Act of 1860. At present, the Society has 813 Life Members and 61 Associate Life Members. SECRETARIAT ADDRESS  Prof. R.K.
